{"id":65755,"date":"2024-07-23T15:42:17","date_gmt":"2024-07-23T19:42:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/statescoop.com\/?p=65755"},"modified":"2024-07-23T15:42:17","modified_gmt":"2024-07-23T19:42:17","slug":"north-carolina-courts-case-management-software","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/statescoop.com\/north-carolina-courts-case-management-software\/","title":{"rendered":"North Carolina courts expand case management software"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Eleven more counties in North Carolina will gain access to the state&#8217;s digital case management system as part of a statewide modernization project under its new contract with Tyler Technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The state has this year made more than 1 million electronic filings through eCourts, North Carolina&#8217;s case management software, according to data collected by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nccourts.gov\/news\/tag\/press-release\/ecourts-extends-to-mountains-of-western-north-carolina\">North Carolina Judicial Branch<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis eCourts milestone highlights the diverse landscapes of our great state \u2013 connecting citizens from Murphy to Manteo \u2013 as historic progress replacing isolated paper files with digital court records reaches the westernmost regions of North Carolina,\u201d Ryan Boyce, director of the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts, said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nccourts.gov\/news\/tag\/press-release\/ecourts-extends-to-mountains-of-western-north-carolina\">press release<\/a> Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The state&#8217;s easternmost counties were the first to make the switch from paper to its online portal in February. With these additional western counties \u2014 Buncombe, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Polk, Swain and Transylvania \u2014 38 counties, roughly half of the state&#8217;s population, are covered by the expansion, according to the announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The state&#8217;s expansion follows an extension of the state&#8217;s contract with Tyler Technologies, from 2029 to 2034, but that also reduced the total price the state will pay from $100 million to $94 million, due to \u201cvendor implementation delays,&#8221; according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carolinajournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ecourts-76-2-022624.pdf\">court documents<\/a> filed by North Carolina residents who alleged that a messy IT rollout infringed on their &#8220;constitutional and other legal rights.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forty-nine of the state&#8217;s 100 counties are on track to transition to the case management system by the end of the year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eleven more counties in North Carolina will gain access to the state&#8217;s digital case management system as part of a statewide modernization project under its new contract with Tyler Technologies.
