The City and County of Denver has tapped Sean Greer, the city’s IT director of service delivery, to serve as its new chief data officer, according to an announcement<\/a> made Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greer has served as IT director within the Denver Technology Services since 2019. Before that, he held various IT roles at Denver International Airport over a period of 12 years, where his last role was director of innovation and program portfolio strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denver’s chief data officer position was created this year<\/a> by splitting the chief data and information security officer’s responsibilities into two roles. Last month, the city announced it had hired Merlin Namuth<\/a>, a private-sector cybersecurity expert with 25 years of experience, as its new chief information security officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the new CDO, Greer will be responsible for developing a comprehensive data strategy aligned with Denver’s goals and using raw data to improve city operations and enhance citizen experiences. Greer will also be tasked with establishing a data governance framework that ensures data quality, security and compliance, the announcement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, Greer led an initiative as the city’s IT director to implement a new Automation Center of Excellence program to find new use cases for automation that would increase efficiencies. The project won the Colorado Technology Association\u2019s\u00a02024 Apex Project of the Year award<\/a>\u00a0and a\u00a02024 CIO 100 award<\/a>, and to date, the work has saved the city $2.9 million and over 54,000 hours of staff work, the announcement continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSean is a seasoned technology leader who excels at driving innovation, strategic planning, and operation excellence,\u201d\u00a0said Suma Nallapati, Denver\u2019s chief information officer. \u201cWith a proven track record of innovation and leadership in technology and data management, Sean will be instrumental in driving data-driven decision-making and advancing the city\u2019s digital transformation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I am honored to assume the role of Chief Data Officer.
