The nonprofit National Association of State Procurement Officials<\/a> on Monday announced it’s launched a new initiative to help federal workers find employment in state and local governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In partnership with Civic Match, a public sector employment program managed by the nonprofit Work for America, NASPO aims to connect finance and procurement experts from federal agencies with hiring managers at the state and local level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement comes as the Trump administration continues to slash the federal workforce<\/a>, leaving thousands of public servants without work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor many years, recruiting and retaining top talent has been a top priority for our members,” Daniel May, director of procurement talent development at NASPO, said in a press release<\/a>. “We believe this free-to-use matching service is an excellent tool as we bring top-tier professionals into state and local procurement offices.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several states, including Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania<\/a> and others are recruiting to fill open positions. Some have streamlined their hiring processes to attract talent and potentially hire laid-off federal workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington state lawmakers have introduced legislation to prioritize displaced federal workers in hiring processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul last month announced the state had received more than 1,300 applications in response to its “You\u2019re Hired\u201d campaign<\/a>, aimed at hiring laid-off federal workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro signed an executive order<\/a> last month directing his Office of Administration to accept federal government experience as equivalent to commonwealth work experience for civil service roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore in February expanded the state government’s career portal<\/a> to highlight job openings in information technology, life sciences, engineering, aerospace and other high demand industries. There are nearly 130,000 open job postings on the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hawaii\u2019s Operation Hire Hawai\u2019i<\/a> seeks to fast-track former federal employees into state agency jobs with recruitment events this month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the April 7 announcement, NASPO plans to hold roundtable discussions with state government leaders to share information and resources about job opportunities in state and local procurement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
