It\u2019s been more than three years since Arizona launched its mobile driver\u2019s license project<\/a>. Now, the state\u2019s IT office is looking to use those licenses as credentials for the state\u2019s online services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have millions of Arizonans already registered with the Arizona Mobile Driver\u2019s License,\u201d said J.R. Sloan, the state\u2019s chief information officer. \u201cI want to figure out how we leverage that and build upon that. Our goal is to really build an identity platform that can interact with some of the existing solutions that are in the market.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sloan said he also wants to ensure the state can use the federal\u2019s identity service Login.gov<\/a> and or vendors like ID.me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe [could] interact with those, accept those and then pass those credentials along to our application,\u201d Sloan said. \u201cThat\u2019s really the approach we\u2019re trying to take.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sloan said he\u2019s also on the lookout for how standards on mobile driver\u2019s licenses and digital identities may change, and focusing on privacy\u2019s role as governments move from identity verification to digital identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe want to make sure we\u2019re taking up the path that keeps the individual in the driver\u2019s seat.\u201d Sloan said. \u201cI think we\u2019ve got to keep moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
